News Flash November 19, 2009
OSA announces the initiation of a Collaborative Integrated Resource
Planning Study. The CIRPS project will develop a 30 year resource plan for a generic,
but very typical, electric service region. The benefit/cost functions will
include both the direct costs of service and the external costs to society of
the impacts of various energy alternatives. Available energy, renewable, and
conservation options will be evaluated over a wide range of uncertainties with
regard to costs and climate change impacts. The OSA
PowrSym software and the OSA server farm will be used to model the thousands
of scenarios created by the combination of options and uncertainties. CIRPS is
unique in that it will be a fully open and transparent process with parties from
all view points invited to participate and contribute to the development of the
study scenarios. CIRPS will provide an accurate and neutral simulation model
allowing all options and view points to be evaluated on a level playing field.
Collaboration will be accomplished via workshops and an Internet working group.
